Angiography utilizes contrast to visualize specific arteries. This exam involves a catheter being placed in the femoral artery, via a small incision in the groin region. Once the catheter is in place, contrast is injected to visualize the arteries of the area of concern. Placement of the catheter and contrast is guided by fluoroscopy. X-ray images are acquired to document the results. Angiography, as known as an arteriorgram, can be used to evaluate such conditions as arterial aneurysm, atherosclerosis, embolism, hemorrhage, occlusion or stenosis.
