Bone Densitometry or DEXA

Loss of bone mass, or osteoporosis, can occur in all adults as we age but most often affects women after menopause. An enhanced x-ray (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry or DEXA) is a quick and painless procedure to measure bone density, usually from images of the lower the spine and hips. Other procedures for measuring bone density utilize ultrasound waves rather than x-rays. Advanced Medical Imaging offers both.

Bone Density Scans, by revealing the amount of bone loss and resulting fragility,
allow your doctor to assess the risk of fractures and develop a treatment plan. The effectiveness of treatment can then be measured with follow-up scans.
